The Agro-Business Centre-Guria (ABC-Guria) was founded in May 1998 as agro-business
support association, which aims at supporting the development of agro-business
in Guria region of Georgia. Until summer 1999, Guria ABC received full cost coverage
and technical assistance from the European Union TACIS Agro-business program.
ABC-Guria employs three agro-business advisors, which are highly qualified in
their respective area of competence and have undergone extensive training through
European trainers in Georgia and abroad.
Since its foundation, ABC-Guria has prepared 76 Business Plans and 15 loan proposals
for clients from agro sector.
In July 1999, ABC Guria consultants were sent to Latvia for a study tour to acquire
Latvian ABC experience and make useful contacts with Latvian side.
ABC-Ozurgeti provides the following services:
- Preparation of business plans;
- General consulting in agro business;
- Training seminars for farmers, SME's;
- Organizing of business meetings
During 1999, the ABC Guria carried out the following services:
- Feasibility study on tea sector of Guria to evaluate current
situation and the future potential;
- According contract signed between ABC Guria and Agro Business Bank of Georgia
the monitoring of credit unions has been made in Lanchkuti and Khobi (Samegrelo
region) districts;
- The business plans of tea and food canning SME were prepared to present to Agro Business Bank of Georgia;
- In November 1999, The ABC Guria received Grant of Eurasia Foundation to create Association of Citrus Farmers of Guria. Several seminars have been delivered to farmers on the following subjects: organizational structure of association, Financial management of association, association and banking system;
- Good contacts were established with Ozurgeti, Chokatauri, and Lanchkhuti district’s local administration in order to gather and categorize agro database of the region;
- Seminars on organization development and strategy were organized together with the Counterpart International;
- The information database on modern technology of some agro sectors is under process of creation;
- The organization participated in the implementation of consulting part of the State Program - "Temporary and Permanent Employment of Unemployed Persons".
